WILDERNESS EXPEDITIONS offer a professional and flexible service that takes the ‘hassle’ out of every aspect of enjoying an adventurous holiday. The aim is to provide you with the support to have an experience you can treasure with the knowledge that you are in safe hands.
Our Tour Leaders (guides) are firstly chosen for their ability to promote a safe and enjoyable experience in a relaxed and friendly manner. As well as having a solid base of outdoor experiences and a wealth of knowledge of Tasmania’s natural environment they must demonstrate an empathy with people from all ‘walks of life’. We also foster and value a strong commitment to environmental protection and our guides are expected to conform to minimal impact codes in all practices.
Guides come from a variety of backgrounds. Many will have a history including the varied roles within the state park service or skills directly in outdoor education. Most will possess some level of formal education that has led them into the field and specialist knowledge related to a more specific aspect of wilderness. Above all, our guides invariably have a love for wild Tasmania and like nothing better than spending time with likeminded people.
Environmental Impacts of our operations are a primary concern. As a company we continue to implement measures (above those required) to protect the areas in which we operate and revise our operations as necessary. We also provide sponsorship support to local environmental projects through direct donation of either funding or the provision of labour. We see this as a tangible way to demonstrate the privilege we feel as operators in such a special place.
Equipment Options are carefully researched to provide the most modern, high quality and lightweight gear from the world over. Everything possible is provided, you can turn up with as little as a pair of sturdy footwear (and underwear) if you like! Following your trip we are more than happy to assist your purchase of any of the gear we have access to. We can also arrange a full kit of hire gear if you have other walks in mind that are within your capabilities.
Menus are devised with an emphasis on using as many fresh local items as possible. We always attempt to source organic ingredients and can cater for most diets. You’ll be provided with the opportunity to have input into the menu and we can attempt to tailor the meals to cater for individual tastes wherever practical.
Our Tour Base is located in Devonport; the city is the entrance port for the twice daily passenger/vehicle ferry service from Melbourne and parking is available if you would like to bring your vehicle and explore more of the state. Otherwise, our courtesy bus can pick you up from the ferry, Devonport airport or from your accommodation around town. There is also the option of pickup from Launceston or the Launceston Airport.
